Roy Langford's Articles (Introduction)

We are very lucky to be able to reproduce the articles of one time Tipton Harrier Roy Langford. Roy has kept diligent personal records and information relating to his sporting days with Tipton Harriers during the mid 1950's and early 60's. He has, over the years, produced nearly fifty such articles that have been published in the Black Country Bugle, a newspaper periodical featuring all aspects of social & local history.

What is fascinating about these very personal recollections, in the context of the Harriers, is the way in which they reflect just what the sport meant to a young working man in the Black Country.

They vividly describe the lengths people had to got to to pursue their sport. In addition they provide a rare insight into the life of Tipton track athletes in what was really a typical tradional harrier club.

Roy, together with the Black Country Bugle, have kindly agreed that these can now be included here on the Tipton Harriers website. Roy originates these articles in his own hand and these have been typed up for use on this website (NB we have only reproduced the text of the articles to date).

We will be including these articles over the coming months.
