Midland Womens XC League (13/11/2016)

Bob Lynch reports,

They didn't include the ditch!

Which pleased about half the team and displeased the rest. Not sure why they left it out but it was on the course map so it looked like a last minute decision. Anyway, ditch or no ditch the ladies' team did well today and clinched an excellent 6th place in the first division against the likes of Loughborough Uni etc. And we beat W&B! Sorry Sue D got left out of the photo, she just wasn't around but did make it to the start.

Rain threatened but held off and it was relatively warm with the going "good to soft". We had seven runners although sadly Sue Street had to drop out towards the end with an injured ankle, so six finishers. About two minutes into the race, we had Amie leading the Tipton charge but unusually, a couple of minutes later Lynne and Sally-Ann had overtaken her. Amie was not to be denied however and by the end of the first lap she was back in command and it stayed that way for the rest of the race. The course was probably a little shorter than in previous years with a winning time of 22.19 by a Birmingham Uni lass. Our ladies got (first four to count) Amie 22nd in 24.52, Sally-Ann 28th 25.13, Lynne 31st in 25.32, the transformed Sue Davies 32nd in 25.36, Sophie 63rd in 28.28 and Jo 109th overall but 36th Master 32.16. There were 152 finishers. It just goes to show what good packing can do - the counters were all within 11 places and close in time too. It bodes well for the rest of the season.
